Working for the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), Jill Smyth is Counselor for Space Affairs at the Embassy of Canada to the United States. Her role is to support the implementation of Canada-U.S. collaborations and to identify new areas of potential cooperation in areas such as space exploration, Earth sciences, as well as space science, R&D and skills development.

Working for the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), Jill Smyth is Counselor for Space Affairs at the Embassy of Canada to the United States. Her role is to support the implementation of Canada-U.S. collaborations and to identify new areas of potential cooperation in areas such as space exploration, Earth sciences, as well as space science, R&D and skills development. Prior to this position, Jill has served as Chief of Staff to the President of the CSA from 2018 to 2020. Since starting her career at the Canadian Space Agency in 2000, Jill has held various positions in project management and data management for missions in the RADARSAT series, the Government of Canada’s flagship Earth observation program, as well as a variety of Earth sciences missions. She holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in geography with a specialization in remote sensing.
