Women In Space: Future Space Architecture Derived from Women’s Ingenuity

Senior government leaders will discuss the future of U.S. space architecture. Panelists will share their views on how space is ever changing. Is progress fast enough? You will learn more about how the panelists’ organizations are leading development of space strategies with today’s emerging technologies and how they will drive national security and technology forward. The future architecture of orbital systems was a key topic at the 2023 Space Symposium, with vendors displaying the latest ideas for satellite constellations.

Speakers

Dr. St. Germain is the Division Director of the Earth Science Division, in the Science Mission Directorate at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Headquarters. She provides executive leadership, strategic direction, and overall management for the entire agency’s Earth Science portfolio, from technology development, applied science, research, mission implementation and operation.

Dr. Karen St. Germain

Dr. Andrea Gilbert is Technical Director and acting Chief of the Tracking Cell at the Space Development Agency. In this role, she provides technical leadership to support architecture definition, acquisition strategy development, contract execution, and risk reduction efforts for the Tracking Layer of the National Defense Space Architecture, whose mission is to detect and track advanced missile threats like hypersonic glide vehicles. Dr. Gilbert has supported a variety of infrared programs from acquisition through operations, using both ground- and space-based sensing platforms. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and Astronomy & Astrophysics from Harvard University, and a Masters and PhD in Astrophysics from the University of California at Berkeley.

Dr. Andrea Gilbert

Ms. Tina Harrington, a member of the Defense Intelligence Senior Executive Service, is Director, Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) Systems Acquisition Directorate and Cadre Executive Director at the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), Chantilly, VA.  As SIGINT Director, she leads a joint team responsible for the design, development, and acquisition of United States Signals Intelligence Space Systems for the Intelligence Community, military services, and allied partners.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Schmoll is general manager for the Mission Solutions division in the Space Systems sector within the L3Harris Technologies Space and Airborne Systems segment. Space and Airborne Systems provides mission solutions for space and airborne domain with defense, intelligence and commercial applications.
